Question Rear wing

I just bought a 1984 Carrera Cabriolet (black) but it is still at the seller's house. When he bought the car a few years ago his wife made him take off the OEI "whale tail" because she didn't like it (go figure). So right now he just has the standard rear deck lid with the standard grate. He kept the tail, however, and I am going to put it back on asap.

My question is this (and it may sound stupid, sorry): Does the grate that is on the standard deck lid need to be removed before I put on the original whale tail or does the grate stay on. My concern is that with the two grates (the one on the deck lid and the one built into the tail) the engine will not get enough airflow.

Any answers?

My '89 coupe has a factory tail and it does not have the "no-tail" grill underneath.
Please post pics of your cab when you can.

Pics of your "Office" would also be appreciated.

Thank you very much! I didn't think I'd need to keep the other grill on but I just wasn't sure.

Here's my office:

Very observant. His display is showing 310 knots of INDICATED airspeed at just under 28,000 feet. However, because the air is less dense at higher altitudes his indicated airspeed will be LESS than his TRUE airspeed. For example, at 37,000 feet my aircraft will indicate about 250 knots but because the air is so thin up there, the aircraft will actually be moving at about 445 knots or so.

Beautiful black 930 Targa you've got there by the way.

Here are some pictures when I put a tail on my coupe. No grill under the tail.

No grill needed, I dont thing you can even keep the grill in, dont you need those holes to mount the tail? Anyhow I would think the more air the better, anyhow here is my homemade office but I dont make any money in mine like you all,, 500 very hard hours, and a lot less hair!!!

That's a lot of glass for a 450kt office, what airplane is it? Must be one of those new fancy high tech jets... Makes my 767-300ER look pretty shabby...

Here's my "other" hobby office, which I built. It's a 75 knot maximum office.

Ed, is that a Grand Rapids Tech engine system? The guy who builds them lives down the street from me, I was going to get one for my 69 porsche 912 to monitor more than I need too.

Brian,

The airplane would be a Embraer EMB-140. It's a nice airplane to fly.

I'd take your steed any day, however. Nothing is quite like a Boeing IMO.

Yeah, gotta love the boeings, even the 727s were/are pretty fun to fly! I work for UPS and our Tays converted -100s even have a hud that you can use to hand fly a Cat3 approach! Can't do that with the 75/76, gotta leave it coupled up....

Craig: You are correct. You might tell your neighbor it's a nifty piece of equipment!
