oil pressure gauge problem
I am getting a false reading on my oil pressure gauge. I disconnected the wire from the sender and the gauge still pegs when you turn on the key. Pull the harness apart in the engine bay tested continuity no problem from sender to harness but it must be shorting out up stream, any ideas ? where does this wire go before the gauge.

Steven,
What was the original problem??? The gauge will always peg when you disconnect the sender, assuming the gauge is getting proper +12 Volt power and the internal circuitry is properly working! If you ground the sender lead and the gauge reads zero, then wiring to sender is OK, and the gauge may be OK. Substitute a 2000 Ohm potentiometer for the sender and sweep full range to see if the gauge sweeps full range. What resistance to ground does your sender measure with engine off? It should read somewhere in the range from 12 Ohms to 20 Ohms.

So I ground out the sender lead and I have a zero reading at the gauge. It's getting dark here and cold (ivan is coming through )I'll test the ohms Sunday. Thanks for your help It's amazing how great this web site is. By the way the problem was the oil pressure gauge was always pegged at 5 .

The oil pressure sender has no reading on ohms. Must be the problem
