Super Cool Starting
After swapping in a new WUR (from an Audi 5000) my high compression engine now seems to start much quicker than previously.
Not being quite used to this, today I pulled off a super cool starting maneuver by grinding the starter at my local p-car parts supply. Aaah, that sweet sound! No wonder the dealers don't want to talk to us guys w/ the oldies. My question is, did I do this by merely holding the start procedure a little too long, or this is the sign of some impending starter problem? The car was sitting for about 20 min after reaching about 200 degree temp. ![]()

Maybe you left coast guys have some ideas about this.
If the starter makes that grating sound ( the same as when someone tries to start an already running car) could it just be that I am holding the starter a little too long, or is it more likely that I have a problem, such as a dirty Bendix?
