Another Hurricane....!!!??@@#

I live on the beach here in Jacksonville, where we've been dealing with the unusal hurricane activity this year. Well it seems unusal, the weather guys say it's normal..!!

As folks get their homes ready for the weather that comes with that, the enthuiast thinks of his car as well.

I've got a small one car garage with my harleys and 911 stuffed in there. In the event of a bad hurricane, cat 2 and above, my garage would be flooded and trees would likely be through the roof.

Thus, I've though about taking my toys inland 30 miles or so, placing them in a more protected environment. Oppss....there is no protected environment, unless I can use someone elses garage.

Even though I'm kinda' kidding, it seems there might be a market for a hurricane bunker that would lease space to pcar nuts who want to ensure their babys weather the storm. Actually, it'd be more than just us there. There'd be all kind of guys/gals bringing their toys to keep them safe.

Anyway, I must have less to do than I thought, since I'm sitting here thinking about things like that...o well...here comes Jeanne right up the coast.

Wish us luck..!!

Phattey...

Well, Phattey, yes: wish you luck with all those tropical storms and hurricanes and all ...

I had a ship in Jacksonville 2nd week of Sept., yep, Frances delayed her, then she went to New Orleans, yep, Ivan (and now she's in Houston, the old Ivan is raining on top of her, waisting more time, and then she'll be at Tampa...yes, more rain and stormy weather there... WHASSHAPPENIN!!!

Aren't there any good storage facilities available with private companies, like " Suregard" (the ones with the lighthouse) ... Or are their facilities made of hardboard, like so much in the southern USA?

The building materails do have a factor, yet it's more the flood areas. We're a river city with a beach as well. Thus the storm surge and river flooding are the real issues.

Garages, storage facilities, etc.., would suffer from rising water.

You're probably right in that there may already be that type of facility. But, it'd have to be in a high area to be really effective.

Ciao ciao

Park your car in the interior section of a multilevel garage such as the Jacksonville airport. I know it's not what you want to do, but what else is there. I put my car in one for Frances and nows it's there for Jeanne. I saw a story about it on the learning channel. There is less wind and debris in the garage. good luck,

I know the feeling guys.......although jax might be better. hopefully less than a cat 2 by then. I should get a strong 2 and yogi a weak 3. I think the multi level garage is a great idea particularly due to building strength and airflow that wil not be that bad .
My toy and good car are in the garage and the crap car (96 jeep grand cherokee limited .....big deal ) and the jet ski's are out side. Ah choices........
Good luck to the Florida gang.

my routine hurricane is 18in of water above sidewalk level every 5-10yrs. I use a mid-rise lift, a little more than 2 cement blocks, for routines. If Dr Grey's forecast is correct for the next 25yrs you guys are screwed. He's been the most accurate forecaster for the past 20yrs. My 70yr hurricane stat says I'll have 10ft above sidewalk. The Long Island Expressway of '38 lifted houses off their foundations and moved some down the block.. go figure.

Having survived Hurricane Andrew in 1992 (Miami Lakes resident back then), I have a strong appreciation for any type of Hurricane. Good luck to everyone in the southeast and I hope everyone fares well with this one.
