Seemowkin........

So ,the fender I bought on ebay arrived with a "modification" courtesy of UPS the other day ,sent it back and await refund . Decided today that I should run the car around the block anyway ,sans fender .So I lower the car off the jack stands ,remove doner battery from truck and hook it .I start the car and roll it outside .After about 1 minute it starts smoking ,I figure this to be expected as the car has been standing for almost 3 years .I put it in gear and take it around the block ,the smoke gets progresively worse ,I get back to the house and shut it down ,5 minutes later I start up and it's clean ,30 seconds later it starts smoking again so I let it idle a while and notice that the oil level guage is pegged to the top ,I check the dipstick and it's just below the top mark .I put 12 qts of oil in with a dry front oil cooler after I drained it last week ,have I over filled the oil or do I have a rebuild slated for winter?.A rebuild doesn't scare me but if that's the concensus then I'll leave the body work until the motor's done .

Bin Der Dun Dat

I made the mistake of adding oil to a cold engine one morning - same thing happened. So much smoke I couldn't see the car behind me....

Wait until your engine is at operating temperature (about 180 F) then check via dipstick whether you neeed to add. Dash Guages are notoriously incorrect.

Many on this board have been there.
