Well, this BBS scared the poop out of me. One evening, minding my own business, I'm reading the wonderful Pelican Parts BBS and come across a topic about fuel lines bursting into flames under the hoods of Carreras (ok, maybe not bursting into flames, but springing leaks). It sounds like this is getting to be a real problem on these cars, and can be expensive too, if you go the OE route. This all gets me thinking about the fuel I've been smellig under the front hood (which I still haven't found--sender gasket is fine), but not too worried. That is until the next mornign when we are having an unseasonably beautiful day here in Michigan, so I decide to take the Porsche to work. I drive about 1.5 miles and realize a very strong scent of fuel in the car, not like anything before, turn on the heater blower and it gets worse-- *****! Turn the car around, go back home (end up late meeting a co-worker) pop the deck lid and... smell gasoline. I couldn't believe it, read about a problem and the next day come down with it, I felt like a hypochondriac. As it turns out I was. few days later I decided to brave the research of how bad it realy was, or was it just my imagination, hmmm. So I go out to the car, pop the lid, sniff, no strong gas smell, I imagined it. So I thought, I started the car and BAM! I smelt gasoline (you thought I blew it up, didn't ya?). Turned off the car pop the lid and sniff, yup, gas in the back now. Start car with lid open, walk around back and see this little stream coming out from the fitting under the fuel filter. Tighten the little guy up, and NO MORE GAS SMELL!!! I was so happy, had to go out for a celebratory drive-- and I loved every minute of it.
