Squeaky noise
I've started to notice a squeaky noise in the driver foot well area.
I hear it best during two different events. One is when the ignition is switched on and the second is when I get the car going into first gear. Sounds like some kind of fan shaft noise. As the RPM drop it sounds louder and then quickly disappears. Of course I probably notice it more now since I'm tinkering with the stereo and it is currently out of commission. I can't seem to find the source. I need to know where I should target the spray of WD-40. Thanks. Q.

Not sure what car it might be your squeak is in, but it could be footwell heater blowers if you have the heat on. Try heater fan off when you start and see if that isolates it.

The squeak is in the 1988 turbo. Sorry about not clarifying.

If its like the 86 there are heater blower motors on each side of the car in the footwell. They are notorious for squeeking when cold on start up. They will quiet down but they also need to be replaced if thats the problem. Not sure about what you hear when you engage first gear. Does the noise rev with the engine? Is the squeak more like a squeal, like a dry bearing?

The noise is definitely not from the engine but fron the front of the car drivers side. Luoder inside than out. It does sound like a dried out shaft or bearing.

Before you start it (after sitting over night) make sure the heater blower motor in the center console is off. Turn on the key without turning over the engine and then turn on the blower motor. I think you'll find your problem.
