Shift Lever Coupling
OK, I did what was suppose to be the hard part of replacing the shift rod coupling bushings. I can not seem to get the shift lever coupling off the shift rod. I did remove the set screw and have not been able to get it to move to replace the shift rod bushing. Any ideas? Figure if I have gone this far might as well finish and do the job right.

I take it you have undone the splined end?
|
Yes I have the spline end. In case I mis spoke. I am talking under the Shift lever where the ball socket sets in.
|
Ahh I see, your up the front? (coupler is at rear).
To replace the "socket" bushing just remove the three bolts holding down the shifter and the two bolts holding the rod support and pull up. Then the cup at the end of the rod will slip off allowing the rod bush to be replaced. |
Thanks for the reply. I have gotten the shift lever assembly out of the car and have replace the ball socket bushing on the shift lever. I have remove the set screw in the shift lever coupling but I am not able to slide the coupling off the shaft. Wondered if I was missing something. I have tried tapping on it but do not want to ruin it.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't want to ruin the shift lever coupling. Mine seems to be really stuck on the shaft. The rod bushing doesn't look bad so I guess I will quit while I'm ahead. Thanks again:)
