axle stubs

I replaced my bad transmission with another one. I think the first one was from a 70 car and the one I bought is from a 69. Anyway, the newer axle stubs are larger in diameter than the older one. I simply took the stubs from the bad transmission (1970) and replaced the stubs in the good tranmission (1969). It seemed to fit well.

Does anyone know if this will work or will I have problems? I have a 69 912 and the axles stubs are the smaller of the two. When did they change over to the larger diameter stubs?
