Randy: Make sure you get good high density padding. And if you want to go all out, get SFI rated stuff. The padding I'm using is very hard, but is evidently what you want if you gotta bang into something. The soft stuff doesn't do the trick...

So the rule of thumb to follow with flares like the sc's is 1/2 inch lower in the rear than front?

Yes..the cut outs are different and measuring 1/2" higher in front arch results in a 1 degree downward-to- front slope.....

I agree with Wil.
To confirm the fender measurments check the rake with a protractor on the door sill . As a last resort I'd trust the fenders hieghts on 911s for a base to set up my suspension. The fenders can vary from side to side.

To get your 911 to handle it's best, you should have it corner balanced and alighned. While the fender measure method will make it look right the corner balance will make it handle right.

Imho after a 911 has been perfectly corner balanced it would be unlikely that the fender measurments would be the same from side to side.

wanted to add to this thread....took the car to the guys at TRE in north hollywood for brakes and ride height adjustment. turns out that the right rear spring plate was completely busted. They think that instead of fixing this, the previous owner had the left side lowered to compensate!!! so anyways, they installed a nice used spring plate, and then reset the ride height and aligned my SC so it should be lookin great. picking it up tomorrow! wil post pics pronto :D

Jeff,

If I may be so bold, what did TRE charge for the align and corner balance?

Thanks
Dan

alignment cost $150 and the labor for lowering was about 4 hours. not bad and they did a great job! definately happy with the work. :) i'm about to go wash the car and post pics.
