I need to replace my ignition wires on my 78 SC. I am curious as to the need for the metal shielded lead sets. Are these required or can I use standard type leads?

I don't have them any more. I've been running with silicone leads for 4 years. I found the boots and connectors of them to be of lesser quality though.
I'm sure our host has better sets than the ones I bought before I knew about Pelican.

If you search, you will see a lot of discussion on this. The steel braided ones are not needed, as they do not have the effect on air box explosions, which was once thought to be the reason for the shielding. A lot of posters like Magnacores.

Some posters will tell you that you are crazy to use anything on your car except top of the line, big $$$$, OEM parts.
Others like myself will tell you that the shielded coverings are not necessary at all. I am running magnecores and are very satisfied with them. |

Thanks all for your input. I thought that normal style leads would be ok but it is nice to have some confirmation. Thanks again

How often should wires be replaced? I have a set of OEM sheilded wires at least 9 years now, which may be original since they were on my 1979 911SC when I bought it used.
How will I know for sure I need new wires before just spending big $$ on a set for the hell of it? Car runs fine with no noticeable missing or anything, am I not at peak performance and don't realize it?
