What do you think was living in here?
I got down on it today, taking a break right now. Here's peeling back of the gas tank support to examine where I'm gonna cut.
![]() Now, look close, what the hell are these little minature acorn halves and what crawled in there with them? ![]() Ok, to the rear, this is under the spring plate bushing. Weakened by rust, somebody's jack caved it in. It's like that on the other side, too, but not nearly as bad. I will first pull the pinch seam back down with this gadget, then I will attach rods to the caved in area and pull it down. After that, I will form a piece to scab on top. Once started, I'm an animal. This will be done soon. I'm tired of this kind of work. OK, to the medicine cabinet for some Advil and back out there.

Small pistachio nuts, about 1/4"
The car is from KY, hence the rust. As far as I know, KY doesn't grow Pnuts. ![]() They are packed solid in the area right to the left of the pile in the pic. I don't think there would be as much rust if they weren't there. Seriously. A lot of moisture was retained by all this crap. Shows you why you have to clean out as many hidden areas as you can. Strangest thing I have seen on this car yet. |

Mice, maybe chipmunks
Man, you are a brave soul, I'm not one for work on cancer. I think someday when I have more time and money I may be willing to work on some rust, but I will definitely be the "cut it all out and weld it all back" sort of guy. I don't think I'd want to touch the kind of stuff that you've got there.

Zeke I live in Kentucky we do have some nuts around here but none that I know of are that small.... lol. I do see small ground squirels around here that pack nuts in cars.
Keep up the good work your doing. L.B. Woodrow Wilson graduate

Mice
I get them in my pcar and in the aston martin, have to set up traps periodically. They like wool carpet, cloth wrapped wires and leather. You know the old saying "Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door". I'm about ready to drag the Aston around the neighborhood as the new "Pied Piper" (sp?)

It has to be mice. There are some sections of my Sport seats that are eaten in at the side bolsters. The original tan material was not availabe from Intn'l Auto, World or GAHH, so I sold the seats to a friend of pwd72S.
The good news is, when I vacuumed all that junk you see in the pic, a lot of the rust is surface rust. I may not have to disturb the suspension location points. This car drives real well, it's amazing. I want to keep it that way. And, this gives more time for the rear. That one bushing socket in the torsion tube has problems. I'm gonna have to get in there too. Hoo boy! |
