More Parking Brake light...

So I followed a few other threads when trying to extinguish that big red light in the dash. I slid the contact screw up and down on the side of the hand brake trying to find a position. The light didn't go out so I reset it by turning the ignition on and unhooking the battery. This turned the light off, but now it doesn't come on when I set the parking brake. I move the contact up and down to find a new set point and nothing. When I pull the hand brake up to a point where I think it will break off the light comes on but letting it seat down on the 5th click extinguishes the light.

Any thoughts? Throw a noob a bone here.
