The flares are the same, so the panel will match OK.

In my opinion, there is no substitute for either using a complete replacement fender or welding in metal, as we did. Just IMHO, of course!

That's great! I wish I had that bumper when I did mine. I even suggested in the long backdate thread that someone make a f-glass bumper so that we wouldn't have to cut the panel off.

How about some pictures of that bumper?

Now that is interesting. I thought that was going to be the one piece that wasn't easily reversable. More info needed on that bumper....

ok i dont understand the whole backdating thing why would you take a 911 and change it to make into an older version? I can understand the other way around. say with a carrera and putting a 993 interior etc. but why go back?

Easy - some people like the "old" longhood style with a fully galvanised shell. They also like the weight savings at the extremities.

The 911 looks like it should until 1973. When they changed it to the "impact" bumper it was done not to make it look nicer, save weight or run better but ONLY to meet the US's bumper standards.

Backdating the car saves weight, and makes the car look much better. Wish I could find someone making these parts that adapt the new style front fenders to the early style turn signal!!!

As for Ken's question...why does going to a 993 style make more sense than going to a longhood style?

Have you seen an RS/RSR side by side with a Carrera/930?

There have been lots of cars from across the pond that were required to be Fed-arized with bumopers. The 911 is probably the most well executed, but there are lots of us who still long for the uninterrupted flowing lines of a longhood...

Souk, funny because i never thought i would do this. then i saw an early longhood next to an SC. BLEW me away.
now i'm trying to save up enough money to backdate my 1978 SC.
if you don't mind, i wouldn't mind chatting with you about this via email, PM, IM...whatever. i've got some ideas and you seem to be very experienced in this arena!!!
