Opening Quarter Windows on a late 911?
Has any one Retro fitted the opening rear quarter windows on a late 911 or even a 964? Is is possible, what might be involved?

It's possible, I did it on a '78 SC. Most of the holes were in the body, although some had to be tapped, or I used speed nuts. It was well worth the trouble, the car is an absolute dream to drive with the windows and the sunroof open. It also relieved the buffeting at high speed at the track. If I had to do it again, I would.

Thanks for the link. Sounds like it is possible conversion. No to find some early pop out windows.

Follow the above thread and it should take you a couple hours or so. The extra things you need are:
1) 5mm tap for the holes unless you are lucky to have them already threaded 2) the alum trim piece that covers the trim and keeps the water out 3) the vinyl trim to cover the head liner at the body join 4) use a spot weld remover, they only cost about $5 It was well worth it, I ordered my parts from Parts Heaven as they included the alum trim piece and new seals so it was easier than buying everything seperately, it was around $200. Good Luck

I think the other cool setup is a swinging front wing window. Who needs AC then...

Thom:
Those may be nice for a race car but I would think offers poor weather protection. Rain or wash water can enter if squirted from behind...... Lens is plastic/Lexan, too, and prone to scratch..... Wil

I agree with Nostatic, I am switching the front swinging quarterlight windows from a '74 Targa onto my '77 Targa (after re-chroming)--it's cheaper than new A/C, and anyway,as my wife says, I only use the top if it's raining too hard (or I have to drive slow enough to get wet) .
