Question oil level sender replacement

Hello...a quick question...

When replacing the oil level sender in the rear wheelwell, does the oil have to be drained first or is the sender at the "top" of the oil reservoir so I won't have a major mess

Thanks

it's on the side, so you need to drain it.

Also, make sure all that crude from years and years of driving is cleaned off before you remove the old sender from the tank. If that stuff falls in the oil reservior, it could be messy. I spent more time cleaning than replacing when I did mine.
