I went to remove the driver's side door from my '72 this evening. Four of the bolts came loose with a 6mm hex socket, however someone must have tried the same thing once upon a time with an SAE hex socket because the interior of the socket head is stripped out. I thought no big deal I'll just drive a torx socket in and take the bolts out, but a T-40 is too small, and a T-45 is too large. Does anybody know if they make a size between a T-40 and T-45 or am I going to have to drill these out? Also, is there a specialized tool to remove these bolts or is a 6mm hex socket the best way to do this? Thanks!

This has happened to me a number of times. All thanks to PO s. I've found the easiest thing to do is to grind any paint off the top and weld on a bolt. The damaged fastener is junk anyway.
Good luck. Tim K |
