HP Junky: Question for Juan...
Juan,
On your last dyno run, how much torque did your beast put down? Was it in excess of 600lb/ft ??? |
Juan?
|
86 911 Carrera
Hello, Curious as to how much aprox to Turbo my 86 Carrera?
|
Last one was 570 lb/ft
To turbo a n/a carrera it can be from as simple as $ 5000 or less if you do it to 60k for a full blown race/street engine the sky is the limit the only factor is $. |
Thanks Juan. So I suspect the Kennedy Stage2 kit will suit my requirements nicely (when I save the $$$ to buy one) :(
wannabe911, if have the main exhaust components and TiAL Wastegate to turbo your 3.2 Carrera for sale at $800, which can be used with any off-the-shelf 930 muffler. See http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/185702-fs-protomotive-turbo-j-pipe-tial-40mm-wastegate.html |
if you`re really thrifty you can turbo the 3.2 for about $2000.00,maybe less.Used parts- complete 930 exhaust $500.00 on Ebay,l see them all the time.Stock 930 turbo and wastegate,$400.00 for the two.The all important chip $275.00.A vertex 4-1 FMU (you need this for fuel) $150.00.Add $250.00 to plumb the heat with backdate parts.$50.00 for intake adapter and K&N filter.$50.00 for the oil line to turbo.$40.00 for spacers to raise turbo on stock headers to allow oil drain.Use the other $300.0 for incidentals. These are real life prices that l paid for a lot of these parts.lt was my initial intention to do this on the cheap but being who l am l couldn`t go through with it.l`ve got $800.00 just in my turbo now,$2500 in the exhaust, etc. BUT,it can be done really cheap. You have to be diligent finding parts for good prices and you have to do the work yourself but it`s possible to get it done for even less if you sell the takeoff parts as you go.l sold my Autothority Mass Flow and GHL exhaust for $2600.00 to get my project off the ground.

Great info, Im excited, thanks for taking the time to reply! Any pics of your car on better yet, engine?
|
do a search "silver bullet picture thread" for some pics of the car taken earlier this year..
|
raceman, how many spacers did you use on the stock 930 headers to raise the turbo high enough for gravity drain? 1 or 2?
|
l have switched to a Garrett and am spacing the turbo a bit higher as l weld on the new flange.l think l`d space the turbo up until it just clears the rear engine mount that runs across the back of the engine. The Garrett seems to have less oil needs so draining is not such a problem.Remember the dry sump design of the engine creates a vacuum that sucks the oil from the drain tube. This vacuum and a little help from gravity works fine but use the largest diameter tube you can.l`ve got a 1/2 inch inner diameter drain tube for mine.Post some more pics if you can Merv.l guess it`s my turn for pics also....

I am thinking on replacing my old Rayjay turbo, what Garrett are you using because I was considering going with the k27 highflow.
I agree that the fabrication can be done inexpensively. I was able to do it for around 3,000 and knowing what I know now I could of done it cheaper. |
Raceman, the bigger diameter drain, the better. -10AN is recommended for Garrets drain and a small -3AN or -4AN is recommended for feed, that's all that's needed.
iamchappy, I agree. Knowing what I know now, I could have done mine a lot cheaper too. I got raped in parts, fabrication costs and labour, but you look at the system as a whole, it's really VERY easy to do once you know how. Experience makes a whole world of difference ;) Suffice to say, I'd definately do it again if I ever get the chance ;) |
