Sunroof problems

the sunroof on my 80 SC is slow closing right now and gets stuck. It closes crooked sometimes and jambs.

Do i need cables or a new motor? how can i diagnos the problem without buying the wrong replacement parts?

Well there are all sorts of posts here on the subject as well as Wayne's book which will help you fix most common problems. Sounds like your problem is a broken cable or plastic slider pin holder. I got into mine ('80SC) last month and realized that sunroof elements are relatively simple, however some hoser had gone before working on my sunroof and I had mismatched parts. I bagged the job and gave it to a local Porsche shop that fixes 30-40 sunroofs a year. $700 lighter, the roof works like a charm. YMMV

I just fixed the guy next doors sunroof last week if your cables are ok witch you need to find out, they have to be in time with each other most of the time there is a little bolt that comes loose and the cables get out of time, if the roof doesn't heel up in the rear to sit flush with the rest of the roof then most likely the bolt has come loose, if your lucky the parts may be sitting up in the roof where the panel retracts in to, if they are not they are a little hard to find, to get to the inside of the roof the headliner just pops out across the front and slides back then you can see what your problem is, once you get the cables reatched to the roof you time the cables by removing the drive part of the motor, push the sun roof closed then reinstall the drive and it should work, some times a little slow but with a little help it works fine
