80's era Sport seats vs RSA seats vs Recaro race seats???
What are the overall opinion of the Sport seats compaired to these others. There is a nice set of RSA seats on ebay right now, and I've been thinking of going to a Recaro or similar street/race seat. Any comparisons from you guys in the know. I'm thinking of getting into autocrossing again.

The sport seats will be the heaviest and the least supportive. The RSA seats will be similar to the other Recaros depending upon which other Recaro you are talking about.

The aftermarket Recaros will probably be the lightest, depending on what model you select. Some of them have fixed backrest and can get a bit uncomfortable on long trips.
The early non electirc sports seats are relatively light and comfortable. The RSA's are nice and comfortable, but a bit heavy. You will sit a bit higher in them as they were designed for later cars. If you are planning on AutoX or racing, you will want a five point belt and the fixed headrests and seat cushions on the factory seats don't really accomodate themselves well to the sub straps and shoulder harnesses. Best bet in this case is an aftermarket seat. Tinker |

seat weights
I just purchased a set of RSA seats for my '73 2.5L and was curious about the weight situation. I will be removing a pair of 1978 930 full leather sport seats at 32.38 lbs each, plus their mounting bracket for the earlier cars at 9.75 lbs each, and replacing with the elec RSA at 47.19 lbs each, not counting the mounting plate that I am making from .190 alum plate (6071 T6), So maybe I gain 13-14 lbs total for the pair. If I start to autox w/o the spare, I'm probably about 5 lbs lighter, right?. (Will not DE w/o spare)

the 964 RSA seats are heavy. Tyson and I noticed that when we moved them from Scrappy to Scuffy. The deal is tho, they are damn good seats. I drove up to 15 hours a day and was not tired from the sitting. Also, they have great lateral support. Now, if you are going to run 5 pt belts a lot then you want an aftermarket seat, not this seat. But if you are a 3-4 DE a year person you could get away with these. I love em!
