88 cab

After a 10 year hiaitus, I'm looking to get back into 911 ownership. Here's what I've stumbled upon...

88 cab - 66k, silver ext (original paint 9/10), black top (new), burgandy interior (7/10).

2 prev owners, stamped maint book (no detailed records). Drives great, small drip at main seal (I think), a/c works nicely. All original aside from exhaust (bursch), stereo and rear lid that appears to have been repainted (I'm guessing one of POs replaced original lid w/ tail since this lid (no tail) does not have 3rd brake light).

PPI came back with following:

Leak down test results...

#1 - 6%
#6 - 6%
#2 - 5%
#4 - 5%
#3 - 6%
#5 - 6%

A few minor issues needing attention - right side windshield washer, dome light, heater blower fan not working, rear license plate light, brake pads 1/2 worn.

New clutch w/ updates about 2k miles ago.

We agreed on price of $20.5k.

Sounds like a no brainer. Am I missing anything? Appreciate comments. Thanks.

If it is leaking oil, recommend getting it fixed. Now that the car is 16 years old, may be time to drop the motor and reseal the motor.

Also, did the PPI include pulling off the lower valve covers and checking the head studs?

Anyway, sounds like a nice car.

Sounds like a slamdunk to me. I bought a similar '87 Cab - 62K etc for 18K - in August. Mine needed rotors, pads, tires, rear sway brackets, front wheel bearings & some misc small stuff - so 2K of work. And my clutch is original but still OK.

The oli leak would be the only concern.

Sounds like a beauty.
The PPI values seem very good.
The heater fan is a really easy replacement. Just don't buy used.
Go for it.

Sounds right. I bought my 84 cab in 1999 with 43K mi and paid $18500. I have absolutely loved it having previously owned a coupe. Sounds like you got a good price. Have you checked the Excellence price surveys? I think the August issue covers the SC's and Carrera's.

Get this...

Just got an email (I'm on business overseas) that the dealership sold the car to someone else! BTW, I had provided a $500 deposit and agreed to pay for the PPI that their service dept performed.

Needless to say, I am pissed off.

Was offered a nice discount on a Cayenne S instead. Cut off the roof, slap a flat six air cooled engine in the back and shave off a couple of thousand pounds (and dollars) and I'll think about it.

Angry and need consoling...

I sure hope you don't have to pay for the PPI after that!

How can you buy a PPI from the same dealer sell you the car?
