Q 4 Dead Pedal Install

I want to install a dead pedal that looks like this one:
Here's the question: the installation requires 3 screws to be put in. I'm thinking about how to avoid rust. I can't put anything on the hole from the inside due to the carpet. I want to do as little damage since the car is an original low miles garage queen.
Suggestions?
Edit: also, I have a procooler in the fender well. How will I know where the drill holes will be coming out?

I'd pull the carpet, use small bolts instead of the screws, and dab some silicon in between the hole, bolt head and nut to protect from moisture.

I'm thinking of adding one of these myself, so let us know how it goes.

disclaimer: I do a lot of stuff the wrong way! AND I'm a newb.

Joe,

If you are drilling from theinside, first cut an x or + in the carpet @ the hole center and peel back prior to drilling. Then put silicone on the screws or bolts prior to inserting as skipdup said.

If you want to see where the holes are when looking from the wheelwell, insert a wire or rod through the hole so you can see it from the wheelwell.

If you are worried that you might drill too far, wrap some tape around your bit @ the required depth then stop the drill as soon as you break through the metal . This collar of tape will help you from pushing in too far. There are also commercial collars you can screw onto the bit.

Joe, there's a DME harness under the carpet of that lowest screw. Be extremely careful when you drill there or you will fry your DME when you turn your car on. Ask me how I know ......

Thanks for the help. Steve, if the wiring harness is there, how do I cut carpet without hitting the harness?

No need to cut the carpet. Remove the floor matts, and see where the carpets are glued to the floor. Before drilling, lift the glued carpet away from floor, note the electrical harness under there, and move it away.
