Someone plz check rear wiper wire color sequence?

Re '89 Carrera rear wiper.

Can someone help me out, please. I need to verify the color sequence of wires that plug into the rear wiper motor. See, I had my whale tail repainted recently. The shop seems to have messed things up while reinstalling the engine lid because now the wiper does not return to its upright position. It just stops wherever I turn it off.

I have looked everything over closely. The reset mechanism -- the points that open and close -- look to be operating as they should, at least physically.

Thought I'd check the wiring. Presently, I have this sequence, going from the front to the back (in line with the car's direction of motion):

1.) Connect 53 -- red w/black stripe
2.) Connect 31b -- brown w/white stripe
3.) Connect 53a -- red wire
4.) Connect 31 -- brown wire

Any ideas? Thanks a million.

Joe, thanks.

It's hard to tell for 100% sure, but it looks like that far left red wire has a black stripe ? If so, my wiring is correct.

1.) Connect 53 -- red w/black stripe
2.) Connect 31b -- brown w/white stripe
3.) Connect 53a -- red wire
4.) Connect 31 -- brown wire (ground)

Can anyone check their shop manual to see if those connects match up?

Also, there is a small wire inside the cover cap that connects to one side of the armature. It seems to be powered because if I pull it off, the motor will not run.

I guess I need to find a wiring shematic to check power to each wire.

AH HA! From the diagram, I see there are TWO power inputs. I had checked the 25 amp fuse in the front, but did not think to check for another power circuit in the engine bay. DOH! I just did. Yup, it was blown. New fuse ... end of problem. Gentlemen, I owe you a beer. THANK YOU!

rear wiper motor.......more...

just a small bump on this, as you gents are likely to be familiar with the circuit - anyone else - please chip in!

The rear wiper hasn't worked on my car since I got it, 12mths ago. Pulling in to the car park at work on Friday, I notice in the rear view mirror, that the wiper is working !! One of the kids must have been at the switch. Anyhoo, park the car, but the motor hasn't twitched since.

I opened it up last night, and found one broken wire on the armature, but even patching that, it still wouldn't work. However, if I squeeze the contacts together, it runs !! See here

Question is, what is the normal situation for these contacts? Closed/Open, or what.....? Any info on re-furbing it would be appreciated.

Hi John,

Two pictures of my spare rear wiper motor.

Hi John,

My pleasure. The contacts are 'normally'closed (wires are not attached).
The contacts in the car (wires attached) are also 'normally' closed (just checked it).

BTW: You were almost right, it's "dank je wel".
