Machine Shop (Bieker Engineering)
Anyone ever hear of or use Bieker Engineering in Grants Pass, Oregon? They claim to provide machining sevrvices for Ferrari, Porsche, Mecedes Benz, Alfa Romeo, and Saab engines.
I do not want to trust just anyone with my 3.2 case and heads. I am in the process of preparing for my rebuild and modification. www.biekerengineering.com

Thanks guys. Keeping my options open, do you guys know of any good machine shops in the Portland, Oregon area?

in that area bieker is the man. There are other shops that are as good or better in california, CE, ollies, and a few others, but Bieker knows his stuff, and if you want someone more local to you, then he is the guy. i know he is THE go to guy with remanufaturing carbs too.. but i dont think you need to worry about that with an 85 carrera,

Harry:
Thank you for the recommendation. I feel better hearing it from a fellow pelicanhead. While he claims to have reasonable prices, my main concern was being able to drive the parts to the shop. I don't want to take any chances with the mail. I have had things damaged or lost many times.

i hear ya. thats why i always pay for the insurance and value the parts at higher than they are worth.. just incase i have to replace, i know i will have enough money to do it (and maybe do even better on the replacement).
you may want to contact parts obsolite in mcminneville (sp). see who Gary Emory recomends. i bet he will say CE (competition engineering), or Bieker.. but he should know if anyone does, what all of your options are

Yeah, I was looking at CE's website. They looked pretty good, too.
If I have to do this by mail, I will definitely get the insurance at an amount that exceeds the actual value of the items being shipped. I appreciate you reminding me of this very important "security blanket."

most people swear by CE and they have a reputation as being the best. most machine shops and builders who i have spoken to (vic skirmants for one) have told me they can get small cracks or things to that nature, but if there are any serious repairs, they will out source to competitilon. If i had the dough i would send mine there, but unfortunitly i do not.
i have a friend that had his machine work there on his 356C. heads were 2000 in labor alone. (then again he had them balanced with in 0.0 grams, where as most shoot for with in 0.1) i dont blame you though.. eith parts like these i would trust no one and make sure i personally put them in the guys hand, and talk with him in person about what i want done (although i would call him and do that when i decide who to go with anyways). but then again youre talking to a guy who doesnt trust many people..

That is definitely some serious smack! I do not see myself spending that kind of dough on just the heads. I think you and I are living in the same world.

it will make a difference in life, and how smooth everything runs. i firmly believe the machine work is as important, if not more than the builder and what goes into it.. its all about tolerences, clearence, and specs. like i said, if i had the money i would go that route in a heart beat.. (then again if i had money id have a 356 or an early s, not a 912)

Harry Bieker hangs at Gary Emory's Campout every year. He's an ME that loves talking 356's all day and night. Harry is into exotic design mechanics for entertainment. Walt at CE loves to build winning engines specific to indivudal tracks. like "hey Walt, I want to place in the top 3 at so&so track." "No prob, just get it here by Tues."
