Question for the SC guys regarding the "911SC" script on the deck lid

I was thinking that it would be really cool if we could some how make a "Super Carrera" script plate for the deck lid of our SCs.

With standard porsche script like used on the Carrera.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this.

Maybe someone could use photo shop to see what it would look like.

What do you guys think?

kqw 10-11-2004 07:59 PM

I believe that "SC" stands for "Superior Car"

Rodney Nelson 10-11-2004 08:45 PM

I know, when I posted this I would get flack from the "Carrera Guys".

Thats Alright :)

However, maybe my idea is stupid. Just a thought.

You can start with black adhesive cut to shape. I have done that to a few of my Carrera and Carrera 3.o badges. The only hurdle would be to create the logo, but I am sure some here have the necessary artistic skill.

Long time viewer/First time posting. What a better way to start off than with a picture regarding your thoughts on a "Super Carrera" type treatment. You can probably accomplish this at a metal shop or maybe even a sign place. I'm sure they'd lead you in the right direction if you're serious. At any rate, I've included the logo both in black and chrome plated on my SC. Doesn't look bad yeah??

Welcome to the boards! Very smooth looking SC, with a great logo, too.

Rodney,. no flack was intended....

No Sh&^t.....the designation of "SC" does mean Superior Car. It was a trivia question posed a while back.

I'm pretty sure it means Super, not Superior.

I always kinda wanted to do it using the early 911 script and the 356 SC badge. Can someone P-shop that?

john walker's workshop 10-12-2004 06:57 AM

p-shop 930 while you're at it.

Welcome on board.

SC came from the combination of the previous years models. S with is Super equipment and C repesenting the more powerful Carrera 3.0 engine and flared fenders etc.
The Launch of the 911 SC in 1978 was a turning point year for Porsche who were going to let the 911 die in favor of the more modern 924 and 928 models. Customer demand didn't let it happen.
If the SC had been a lesser sports car who knows what would have happened :p
I think the flared rear fenders with the Fuchs had somthing to do with it :)

Later Carrera's owe their lives to the SC ;)

A Tribute Script would be in order.

The Carrera guy's should throw us a party and http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif

Monterey911SC,

So you photo shop'd that? It looks really good.

The only thing I can think of is that some metal places can due custom cuts using lasers.

For my work I have had this place do laser cuts but they were mostly geometrical.

I will give them a call and see if they can make something like this.

RarlyL8 10-12-2004 08:53 AM

Jared's thought on the subject would be the easiest - if the letter type is similar. Some of the early cars came with the "Super" badge and of course the "Carrera" would be easy to obtain as well.
Anyone have pictures of the font type used for the various aftermarket badges?

I used this similar line of thinking to come up with the "911GTS" badge that now sits on the deck lid.

Would like to see more pic's of your Super Carrera :)

Rodney Nelson 10-12-2004 01:05 PM

356 script that says super is the wrong style. Here is what it looks like.

I was talking about the "SC" logo for the 356, with the early 911 script, it should look kind of nice...

Paulporsche 10-12-2004 03:50 PM

kqw,

Where did you see that trivia question? I have always heard Super Carrera, as Bob flat6 said. However, I understand that that was never officially declared by the factory, such as in apress release etc.

And now some flack from the "SC guys" as well:
I vote 'no' to that.

Well, an "SC Guy" anyway....
but if you do do it it would be easily done by laser cut alluminum
process. Just use the proper computer program to draw it and
and send them the disk.
I forget which program though. Selective memory...

Or try this Link and click on any 78 SC model to see the answer.

Tim

tdatk 10-12-2004 06:09 PM

Or This one.

:p

Tim

Rodney Nelson 10-12-2004 06:16 PM

Well I guess that settles that. Super Carrera is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although us "SC guys" knew that all ready :)

kqw 10-12-2004 08:32 PM

Paul,

Jeeze, I recall it being years ago. I'll try to dig up the source again.

I do remember that no one got it correct and all were surprised at the answer....

aigel 10-12-2004 09:26 PM

I opted for the badge delete option when I ordered my SC. I mean, when I prepped the deck lid for repaint. :D

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1097644837.jpg

I guess this also helps Carrera owners to cope with my car pulling away from them: They can always tell themselves that this is a 3.2 propelled vehicle. ;)

SCs rule!

George
