Muffler ?

I have been thinking of producing an all SS muffler 2 in 2 out for the market. I have made 5 different versions for some of the local guys and they all love them. These mufflers are the banana style and are fully tig welded. My question is do you all think there is room in the market to retail SS mufflers for $225-$250 range? I would do a first run of 25 and see how they turned out. The mufflers are nice and throaty but not real loud until you hammer it and then it sounds like you are on the track. The fit very nice and and are very light weight. Tell me what you think

Ben

Do you have any pictures? What years and type of hook up, SSI or other? From the problems others have had with current offers, I think there is a low volume market. What will the finish choices be and what tips are you offering or thinking about?

Do you have any sound bites?

More competition is always good for this hobby and market, so go for it

Look at what the Dr. is offering in his 3.6 conversions.

SSIs would be the target market for the muffler and I was thinking 2 1/2 tailpipes It The finish is raw ss except polished tail pipes. I think I would then go after the 1 in and dual out market. I have one on my 914-6 and it sounds great we are mounting one on a buddies 3.2 carrera and I will see how that sounds to get some ideas. The muffler looks like a aircraft muffler right now(6 inch tube with end caps and flame tubes etc) but will probably change as I gear up for production. I will try to post some proto type pics ASAP

I'd be interested in a stainless factory style 2 in 2 out sport muffler for $225-250. Absolutely. Now only 24 to go.

Sound would be critical....resonance would doom sales.

I am sure it changes the performance as I have awesome throttle responce and performance on my 914 and i will let you know on the 3.2 carrera. I will take some pics and try and post later. I really want opionion before I go ahead. I don't like wasting peoples time. I also have to look at how to market these things to vendors such as our host etc. After I have pictures posted I will make a few and sell them as test peices to zeke and chuck951 and who ever speaks up soon at a reduced price But I will require feedback so that I can improve if need be.

WHat is the weight and performance gain? I am looking for a future replacement probably 2 in 2 out with an option to change to one out for normal driving to reduce noise. Noise will be a problem if there is any resonances or too loud. The factory muffler seems durable but heavy. If you could drop 10-15 lbs I am interested. A SS muffler would last but a waranty would be nice.

Are you using an off the shelf muffler? If so what brand and model, if not what type are you building?

Since many of the SS mufflers are going for close to $1000, I don't think you'll have any problem selling them.

14468*
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/ss.htm

Great idea. After having a B&B tear on me for the second time, I decided it was time for another muffler. A local shop used the SS intake flanges and tips off the B&B and welded them on to a Magnaflow. Above is a link to their site. I believe he used the 14468, stainless oval, with 2 1/2" in/out dual with the TruX core. My cost $180 COMPLETE!! Sounds great, I get lots of complements. Not as loud as the B&B, a little higher pitch. Attached is a pic from the rear, nice clean look.Good luck.
Regards,
Joe

Guessing off the top of my head but I think the mufflers weigh about 15-20lbs they are much lighter than a stock and even lighter than a flowmaster for sure. I will have to weigh them. I also am not buying them off the shelf they are ALL scratch built. I have welded all them myself ( I teach welding and metal science) As far as warranty I don't know what your looking for other than I would repair any defects in workmanship within a reasonble time frame
Performance wise I would say that this would improve power by as much as the normal dual in dual out maybe a few more hps and lbs (no dyno tunning yet)

I'm looking to replace my Alan Johnson racing Muffler due to rust and would definitely be interested... mine is a 2 in from SSI's 1 out though... would that be a hard mod for you to make during manufacture?

It would be doable but I am not sure what that would sound like. I think what needs to happen is I need to take some deposits of some sort from people that want them I will make them up and People can hear them and post there thoughts
