Redline 75W90 NS $17 CDN per US quart in Toronto.

I'll be picking some up next week.

Thanks for the info guys.

Ian

Ian, do you have an LSD? If you do, with your G50 (and its borg warner synchronizers) you can run regular 75w-90 (not ns) Red Line without issue.

John,

The Syntrax sounds like an interesting proposition and is a reasonable price. I think I'll give it a go.

copper - I think shipping would be extremely expensive to Australia. Assuming around a kilogram per litre you're looking ata weight of about 12kgs. I just sent a package to the States that was about that weight and it cost me $100.

No to LSD. So NS is the one for me. I don't have a trans issue, just want to complete the 'new fluids stage' with the new beast.

Sheldon, I think Syntrax and Delo would both be a good choice, depending on whether you prefer a synthetic base or non-synthetic hydrocracked base.

Ian, sounds great! normal over the counter Mobil 1 worked very well in my G50, they aren't as much of a challenge as the porsche synchronizer design boxes. That said, I'd probably go for 75w-90ns Red Line on a non-LSD box with what I know now.

Redline posted on this BBS that you have to/should add a small amt of another flavor to the 75w-90ns in a G-50.

OK. Now it's starting to get confusing. I searched & could not find the thread from the Redline guy here or on Rennlist but I did find this:

Yep. Redline will probably recommend a combo of some of the above. For example, in a G50 they recommended a blend of one quart of the Lightweight Gear Oil and the remainder 75W90NS (trans. w/out LSD).

Also said that the Porsche LSDs are less prone to chatter and there's not much difference between the NS (for use w/out LSD) and the regular 75w90. This is the Redline guy talking, not me. Although I do know he has/had a 993. Must be somewhat knowledgeable because he recommended 2:1 MTL and MT90 for the trans. and transfer case of my AWD Mitsu. thing?

I have been happy with Mobil 1 synthetic 75w90 in my G50 (no limited slip unfortunately).

You probably can't go wrong with any of the synthetic brands. G50 is supposed to like synthetic better than regular gear oil. Just a matter of how much $ you want to pay.

Castrol, Valvoline, Mobil, Redline, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Silkolene, BG Syncroshift, ................ take your pick. There's all sorts out there from which to choose!
from thread

Maybe Mobile 1 is easier & equivalent?

Anybody know what the rationale for mixing a little regular in with the ns in the non-LSD G50 was? I'm just curious, my research centered around boxes with porsche synchronizers: 901/915/930. Really, G50s don't have any more special requirements than most modern transaxles, at least in the synchronizer realm.

I don't think there's any reason not to just use Red Line 75w-90 (non-ns) in the G50. This should be equivalent to Mobil 1 "over the counter" 75w-90 at your FLAPS, which worked great in my G50 in cold, hot, track, you name it. In my mind the porsche synchronizers that exist in the older boxes are the complication.
