Convert a 3.0 into a 3.2 liter questions

Using the 98mm Max Moritz, or JE P/C, on a 3.0 liter SC engine, are the wrist pins reusable? Or do I need different ones? Other than new rings for the 98mm P/C, what else do I need to make this work?
When ordering 964 cams, or Webcams 20/21, what cam timing is to be expected with CIS? Is the cam timing provided by the supplier? SmileWavy

I don't know about JE, but Mahle pistons come with wrist pins.

I timed my 964 cams per the factory 964 spec. I don't remember what it is off the top of my head, but it is probably in Wayne's book.

On a 80-82 small port SC, get your ports done, and use the early SC airbox/CIS runners. Your engine will run out of breath up top.

There are 3 different versions of the Mahle 98mm p/c
the 3 liter CIS version has a 22x61mm wristpin which is compatible w/ the SC con rods. These are slip fits but do need a slight chanfe on the heads cr 9.8

the 3liter MFI version has 22x58mm pins which are also compatible w/ stock SC rods, installaaton as above cr 9.8

the 98mm Motronic have a 23x58.5mm pin. installation as above cr unknown

wristpins are supplied w/ the kits usually, MAhle wil last longer than JEs,

cam specs are supplied by the manufacturer.

on the cams, get them from camgrinder on this board and he will help you out with things.

"camgrinder" is John at Elgin Cams. They did my 964 grind, and are a first class operation and fairly priced.

CR for the 98mm Motronic is 9.8:1 also. Actually Bill, there is one more you may have overlooked. Mahle makes/made a 98mm MFI version with 23mm wrist pins as well. CR was supposed to be 10.3:1. Andial part number was AND 103 984 SP and I don't know if it is still offered or not.

Ralph

EDIT: I take that back, I know it was offered up until a year ago because my friend is using this set in his 3.4L twin-plug.

So, if I go with Mahle 98mm P/C, is there a seal ring between Cylinder and head just like I have now with 95mm? There is also a thin copper seal on the bottom of the 95mm Mahle Cylinders to the engine case. What seals, top and bottom of the cylinders, is used with the 98mm?

emcon5 10-14-2004 09:46 AM

No sealing ring on top of 98mm cylinders. They use the same copper base gaskets as the 95mm jugs, as they are the same size externally,
