996 Clutch Problem, Help Please....

I have a friend with an '01 996 C4. The car has about 8k miles on it, and just had the clutch replaced. Needless to say he is not very easy on the car or the clutch. Anyway, the car shifted fine prior to the new clutch. Since the new clutch (about 300 miles), the driveline has a nice burning smell , and the trans grinds when downshifting every time you go from third to second (sometimes even when you double clutch downshift, though not always). The release point on the clutch feels normal, and the trans otherwise seems to shift fine to me, though he insists that it shifts harder into all the gears.

Any ideas? Has anyone else experienced any similar problems with the water cooled 911s?

Thanks for any help you can provide
