82SC and CA smog - help!

Hi all,

Newbie to Pelican, here, and asking for help

I just acquired a gem of an 82SC with SSIs, but now have to transfer title which, of course, entails passing CA smog. I have over-extended my budget in purchasing this car, so budget items are paramount for me. Is there anyone out there who can help with used parts, advice, etc. Local to SoCal would be nice, but I'm willing to go to quite some lengths here to get this done. Loner parts would especailly be appreciated, but again, I'm in a bit of a tough spot and would like to get beyond this portion of my new acquisition so I can actually start having fun with the little beastie. TIA, all., apprecaite the help

Edward

Hi and welcome
I'm in LA and have a complete original exhaust system and older oil line you could "borrow" to pass your smog. I would of course want it back in the shape I lent it too you right after you pass your smog.
I would lend it to you for free, with the only stipulation being you would have to have the install and uninstall done by the shop I use so I know it will not be damaged. I still use it every 2 years
thanks
let me know

You CAN more than likely take it a test station that does NOT usually do Porsches....the SC has been known to pass when the SSIs are misidentified as twin cats.

If it passes the visual it can pass the tail pipe test as long as it has been previously leaned out while on an exhaust gas analyzer.

BUT...the seller is responsible for providing a smog when selling....this should NOT be your job....

Mike,
Thanks for the info on the SSIs; maybe worth the try just for the heck of it. And yes, it is the seller's job in CA, but we had both made concessions; I knew what I was getting into

Steve,
THANKS, yes! PM coming your way.
:cheers:

Edward
