What do you HATE most about your 911?

Winters in Michigan, can not DRIVE!!!!

klaucke 10-15-2004 06:19 PM

Its an old car, always will be, so it's not as quiet as a new one, and the radio isn't as nice, and the vent system is bad, and I have to let it warm up and I'm always worried where I parked... the list goes on. Still heavily outweighed by what I love about it though!

masraum 10-15-2004 06:30 PM

It's not mine anymore, and that's not because I replaced it with another one.

But, when I had it, hmm. I guess the worst thing about my 911 was the fact that parts for it cost more that an old chevy. If they were that cheap (ignoring the fact that more people would have them and all of that stuff) I'd still have it.

Granted, I had an '88, but the sound wasn't bad, actually I wanted it louder; the radio was ok, could have been better, but not bad; the vent system/AC/heat worked fine, I suppose the AC could have been better, but before I sold the car it was pretty darn good since it wasn't leaking and the fan was running well; I didn't worry too much about parking it. Actually there was nothing that I hated about my '88 targa. All of the things that I might have changed were minor, and like I said, were only a problem because when I bought the car about 7 months later I got laid off when the dot com went to crap and never fully recovered.

v9ff 10-15-2004 06:40 PM

No air conditioning.

cantdrv55 10-15-2004 06:43 PM

My clutch pedal. Before rebuilding the pedal assy and replacing the cable, the pedal was so stiff that my foot would be slightly sore after a day's run. I've adjusted the cable twice now and it still doesn't feel as I think it should. Either stiff or too much play. I just can't seem to dial it in to my liking. Oh yeah, not having A/C sucks too but I'd rather spend the $ on something else like new suspension this winter.

1fastredsc 10-15-2004 06:47 PM

The amount of money it takes to keep it going and keep yourself happy with the occassional modification.

slater 10-15-2004 06:51 PM

$$$$! The price of parts gets to me sometimes.. but thats when I end up getting to my most imaginative and start making stuff.

ZAMIRZ 10-15-2004 06:52 PM

The 915, especially when it's cold.

lally911 10-15-2004 07:09 PM

leaks - first the sunroof, now the passenger door.

Bill Verburg 10-15-2004 07:11 PM

North Eastern Winters:(

Rob Channell 10-15-2004 07:14 PM

I hate that I don't get enough track time......

:(

I'll still drive it this winter until it gets down into the 20's. No heater........burr.

Buncha whiners complaining about winter weather although it does get a lot colder in the North...........I bet most of you still have heaters. :D

mr.bch 10-15-2004 07:15 PM

jmarenas... you pegged it, altough you need to expand.

Michigan winters force it to be parked...
Michigan summers hammer the car cuz our roads are the worst in the nation.

rzepko6194 10-15-2004 07:19 PM

Archaic HVAC controls and stone chips!!

The rest is perfect!

bob tilton 10-15-2004 07:24 PM

i hate that it OWNS me!

dean 10-15-2004 07:25 PM

I totally agree.

Forgot to say the clutch smell, if you attempt a burnout or accidentally attempt a burnout.

I have an 84 Targa and completely redid the a/c over the last few weeks, and it works pretty well. Not as good as my jap cars, but pretty good. Depending on what a/c parts you have, it cost me under $500 and filled it up with R134a. I have a friend who stuck 134a in his SC and it cools pretty well, no other modifications. Cost was like $15.00

dafischer 10-15-2004 08:22 PM

I hate that it makes me smile so much, and forget how much money I'm investing in it. I love the fact that it makes my wife smile as well, which eliminates that annoying whine from the passenger seat.

Randy Webb 10-15-2004 08:23 PM

1. The fact that it is Guards Red - I will change that to Gemini Blue when I can.
2. The fact that it doesn't run....
3. It's too heavy.
4. Too much wind noise.

cowtown 10-15-2004 08:28 PM

I hate that it prevents me from enjoying any other type of car. I'm a Porsche fanatic, rather than a car fanatic. I skip over Ferrari reviews in Car&Driver. I program my Tivo to record 911 Supercup races. I admire sports cars that can blow my 911's doors off, then remind myself that I wouldn't be happy with one.

:(:D

Scuba 10-15-2004 08:30 PM

It no workie.

azasadny 10-15-2004 09:05 PM

"Winters in Michigan, can not DRIVE!!!!"

My feelings exactly!!

Porschekid962 10-15-2004 09:16 PM

Dad doesnt let me drive it as much as I would like to.

Other than that, it's not as light as it should be, as loud as it should be, or on the track as much as it should be.

I couldn't have said it better.

The 915

Bob's Flat-Six 10-15-2004 10:12 PM

I gave up hating. Takes too much energy. I love my SC, wouldn't change a thing.

I'll take another 100 horse's though :)

3.2 CAB 10-16-2004 12:19 AM

I hate the pi$$ poor jacking system.

lateapex911 10-16-2004 12:35 AM

Who's the idiot who thought the design of the HVAC...AKA..the "oil fume distribution system" was ergonomic?

Actually, the whole OFDS is kinda sketchy.

Also, the 915 and shift action isn't a marvel of German precision, even at it's best. Actually it isn't even a model of Japanese precision! Americans may have done better.....sometime.

And I'm sorry, but I have to bring attention to my 73s rear sway bar mount and link set up. What junk! You know they can do better, just look at the front! The "link"..nothin more than a twisted piece of flat stock would be an embarassment to Trabant!

Of course, none of these things really affects the character of the car......so we just improve here and there.

The "loves" outweigh the "hates" thats for sure.

Steve87-911 10-16-2004 12:51 AM

Trying to climb out of it...without wearing out the bolster.
Trying to get some airflow inside with the roof still on.
Slowpokes in my way.

jbrinkley 10-16-2004 02:22 AM

leaks too much to park in the living room.
Not that I wouldn't do it

Mikkel 10-16-2004 02:30 AM

That the quest for perfection is a never ending (and expensive) one. Cost of ownership basically.

NOH20 10-16-2004 09:20 AM

Ditto - Michigan winters suck! And the fact that I always want more power no matter what 911 I'm driving.

Flagstaff_911SC 10-16-2004 10:58 AM

The price of replacement parts, mucho sucko

otherwise, I wouldn't change a thing :D :D :D

kqw 10-16-2004 11:02 AM

The fact that when I want get into the garage and work on it and cannot find anything wrong or anything that needs adjusting.....

Rich76_911s 10-16-2004 11:03 AM

DOOR SILL RUST! Oh and the fact that it is in pieces, and I am broke!

Jgordon 10-16-2004 11:10 AM

The judgements it inspires in other people.

Randy Webb 10-16-2004 11:10 AM

People who like this thread may also enjoy the Design Defects thread from a few months ago.

The trans synchro system was a big innovation in its day and they even licensed it to many other car companies... but they refused to switch when improved methods were invented.

Same with rust... PAG was first to really rust proof a car. And first to give a body warranty.

KCPSG 10-16-2004 11:28 AM

what I hate most is.....that I cannot seem to find enough money or time to do all the things that I want to do. :D

RANDY P 10-16-2004 11:32 AM

torn door stops. Sometimes it's nice not driving something so "Butch". (Getting softer as I get older)

Icemaster 10-16-2004 01:49 PM

The 1'st to second gear shift on the 915.

It's a ***** to get under effectively in my garage, althought that may be more of a garage issue than car.
