Oil Pressure Sender?

Ok, just got back from driving the 911 while doing some chores. The oil pressure guage pegged at maximum regardless of RPM. Temp is fine, as is oil quantity. I am thinking the oil pressure sending unit died? Sound right?

Hal,

Mybe, but there are other possibilities, too ...

Sometimes the connection goes open due to corrosion or weakened grip of the Faston connector ... or sometimes the wire will fracture all of the strands a few inches out from where it is crimped due to vibration and lack of support.

If you take the Faston connector loose and ground it ... if the wire has continuity, the gauge will read zero. The Green/Black wire goes through both 14-pin connectors, so it may take some cleaning to get continuity restored, or to determine positively that the wire has fractured internally near the end! The 14-pin connector terminals are silver-plated brass ... so I recommend an old, soft toothbrush and 9% vinegar for cleaning, followed by rinse with distilled water, then isopropyl alcohol ... before air drying. An Exacto knife blade can be used to expand the male pins a bit for a better connection. After connection is restored, a bit of Dow Corning #4, #111, or #112 will help seal out moisture and oxygen from the connectors.
