Question about adding speaker wires
 

Hello,

I have a '72 911 that never had door speakers. What is the cleanest way of running speakers wires through the door jambs? There are no pre existing holes. What did the factory use for cars of this era? Pictures would be great.

There are holes, when I added door speakers to my '72 I just ran them along the lower hinge, shouldn't be a big deal

My '73 has holes...

You could drill holes if you don't have any. Chamfer, clean,prime, paint and then use rubber grommets to fee the wires and a rubber wire covering (protector thru). Size it all up first before drilling. Then select a drill size that matches the OD of center part of the grommet. You can vac out metal chips. Good time to check the drain holes and interior for rust.

Clean the inside of the door skin, and spray a light wt. sound insulator. For a bit more wt. stick strips of deadener - not whole panels - across the door skin in a diagonal or crisscorss fashion, then spray. Some products that ought to work well are made by Cascades Design or some similar name. "CAE" maybe Cascades Audio engineering. Search on my name + other terms for more info.

Thik about how much wt. you want to add to the car before doing any sound insulation. If you don't want it to behave like a sports car, you can even add lead sheeting - the PO of one of my cars did. Doors felt great, but not suspension.

Does any one have a picture of their setup in the jamb?
