Look What the Transport Guy Brought Me . . .

After 1 ˝ years of casually researching & looking at 911s, one finally sits in my driveway. Certainly not perfect, but it’s mine.

1987 Carrera Cabriolet
61,679 miles
One Previous Owner
All Service Records
Original Paint: L908 Grand Prix White
Interior: Dark Blue Leather
Original Exhaust
7J & 8J 15" Fuchs with Pirelli P4000
Options:
158 Blaupunkt "Orlando CM127" Radio
424 Automatic heating control
454 Automatic speed control
533 Alarm system
Carrera Rear Spoiler also installed

Immediate Work Needed:
Brake Discs: Replace with stock Zimmerman discs
Brake Pads: Replace with stock Jurid pads
Tires: Replace with Toyo T1-S 205/55-15 & 225/50-15
Front spoiler (to balance the aerodynamics)
Lower to Euro height & alignment

So there it is. Bone stock. Plated in New York with Connecticut owners, but I saw, drove & bought it in Pompano Beach, Florida where the lady owner had a condo. Her husband bought (leased) the car from new & for the last several years it has resided there. (Not long enough for Florida rot to set in). It is missing the toolkit & the tire compressor, but she might have them at home in CT. Ever try to describe a Porsche toolkit over the phone to a woman who says Poorsh? I will mail her a picture.

I’ve decided to keep it original - for now – even the 15” Fuchs. I have Toyo T1-S tires ordered. I will have to do the immediate work above in the next 2 –3 weeks to plate it in Ontario. I already received my 1st shipment from Pelican (with a hefty shipping charge . . . hmmm). I will be self wrenching.

Excited? You bet.

Thanks to all here for your help & for the vast knowledge found via the search button.

Ian

Great car, hope you have alot of fun with it, I love my white 87. You should check your wheel and tire sizes, they should be 16" and not 15".
Cheers,
Erik

Ian,

Very nice, congrats.

BTW I live in Toronto. Do you think the same transport guy could bring me one too? I'm home right now. I could give you my address...

Wow!
I wonder how many people decided to upgrade from the cookie cutter wheels and did not buy the 16's? That is pretty cool. Considering that they paid the big$ for the auto heat! It makes it even a cooler car!

Sweet ride! I just bought an '89 white coupe and love it. Seriously though, a cabrio in Toronto? How many months of the year can you actually drop the top? I've never been to Toronto...perhaps the weather is better than I'm assuming.

Thanks guys.

jkarolyi: Yes, a cab in Toronto. The car will sleep for 6 months. Nov through April.

The other 6 months, it will be a blast.

Don't worry, I'll practise 'safe top'.

I do have the boot cover, but the top was wet from washing off the road grime. It travelled from Pompano to Texas through Port Huron to Toronto on a week long journey via transport. Hansen's. They were good. $1500 CDN (about $13.65 US).

Very nice car. You need to put a chin spoiler on it if you plan on doing any spirited driving. The handling will be weird with the tail alone. Also make sure you have skid plates in the front if you are going to lower it.

Nice car! I love the top down with a little 'moisture' in the air. Shows that you will drive the car as it should be and not be a garage queen.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Now there's a shock, you bought a car in Maple Laffs colors! The perfect car to cruise to the ACC on a Saturday Night.

Seriously, congrats with the purchase. Looks nice!

Congrats on the purchase! Great looking car. I am in Canada as well and will be looking to bring a 911 in from the US due to a serious lack of cars available in my neck of the woods.

I checked out your website, great write-up! I am interested to know about shipping vs driving it back. You say that you decided because of tax/insurance issues. Can you elaborate on this? I thought you would still have to pay all duties and taxes when importing a car whether it is shipped or driven across. Also, did Hansen's look after all the customs/import paperwork or is that something you had to do seperately. Thanks alot.

It's getting harder and harder to find those tire sizes. A few substitutions will allow you to squeeze a little more in.
