heater controls

How does the heater control panel in the dash come out? Is this an easy pry-out or does it require more work that that? I need to repair or replace the cable that runs from the red slider on the bottom of the panel to the box under the front hood due to a 45 degree bend in the cable at the point where it is attached to the slider. Should be easy enough to fix if the removal of the panel is not too involved. Thanks ahead of time for any advice.

Get under the dash (hope you are shorter than I am), there you will see a bracket that attaches from the heater control panel to the firewall.
Here is a pic:

If I remember correctly, it is held in place with a 10mm bolt.
After you remove this you can pull the controls out from the front but only a short distance because all the cables are still connected to the levers.
Hope this helps.
