Using a 74 engine/trans in 68

Can I use an engine and trans out of a 74 911 in a 68 912 body?

What type of mods will I have to make to stuff the motor and oil tank in the car?

Will the trans fit the SWB?

I have a line on a donor car for $1500(74). Complete with running engine and a 5 speed. lots of good parts. Body is junk. Torch material.

Should I jump? How much could I get for the engines and trans if it will not work in the 68?

Please help me decide.

Its worth the 1500. The 912 engine mounts are wrong for the 911 engine, so the body needs to be cut and welded for a conversion. The 912's are an early car and some people might say you shouldn't hack up a good bodied one. The engine and trans should fit physically in the SWB because the LWB just uses angled-back drive shafts to acheive the more rear wheel placement. However, there are countless things that aren't going to or may not be compatable, like the wiring harness, fuel pump, tach?, speedometer?, the prior mentioned engine mounting, and I'm sure 100 other little things.

Realize that a 74 is not the most desirable engine Porsche ever made, and are notorious for needing rebuilding and short engine life.
