Lowering and alignment ?
 

I just finished lowering my car and I can't seem to get the front any lower than 25 3/4 " , will this settle some more over time or should I go ahead and reset the caps on the torsion bars ? I don't want to go to the alignment shop until I'm sure .
Can anyone recomend what I should have the camber set at when I get the alignment done ? This car is used for weekend fun driving but I don't want any ricer hanging with me in the corners . Thanks

What was the beginning height up front?

A year would help. Put it on your signature so we can all share the secret.

Noah , I've decided to re-index as you suggested . I'm doing my measurements from the floor to fender well which I know isn't the most accurate way of doing this but this seems to be the way most people measure ride height .

Gunter , the car is a 77S which was sent over here terribly high to meet U.S. regs .

That was high! I did the same thing as you are planning. Replace the main bushings in the rear trailing arm and index the spring plate by first centering the torsion plate. Search this board under "lowering" about the procedure of indexing, learn why the torsion bars have 40/44 splines. The rear is complex and very involved. Your '77 has the same set-up as the SC's, so, a Bentley manual from an SC would be very helpful (Or Wayne's book) The front is easy. I ended up with 3/4deg front camber and 1/2deg rear after many trials. Height is 25"front/24.5"rear with a tiny 1/16" toe-in. I did all that before going for an alignment and a final touch-up. The rear can be frustrating unless you learn first how to do it and follow the advise from searching this board and get some literature. Have fun.

Your car may still have some thick spacers under -- I think -- the front upper shock mounts. Pull those out and use them as beer bottle coasters.

The rear is already done and seemed fairly easy to do . I used the spring plate angle calculator and it was spot on . I just re-indexed the front torsion bars and I'm getting it dialed in now . The spacer/coasters have been removed also . I was planning on having my wrench do this but I decided if I do it myself the worst that could happen is it would end up at my mechanic's shop . The more I learn about the car the more fun I'm having .
