Cig. lighter-- fuse?
Is there a fuse that controls the cigarette lighter? (All of a sudden my Valentine stopped working

Fuse position 4 in 10-fuse block; black wire feeds cigarette lighter.
Check your owners manual for the correct fuse rating. Do not fix problem by using a fuse with a higher rating. Jim ![]() |

Those sockets are not the best....consider hardwiring it....

"consider hardwiring it"; with a suitable in-line fuse of course!

Hardwiring the V1? Yeah, now after I've tackled 4 relays along w/ the H4s, I feel it would be easy to do... but now I can't find the box the V1 came in and the hardwiring kit cables that came w/ it. Once that's done, I'd still like to have the socket working though...
By the way, which cable are you guys drawing the power from on a hardwired V1? Is splicing into a radio switched source ok? The clock? Should I go directly to the ignition switch? Does it matter? What's kind of amperage fuse do you use on the V1? (My bigger problem is that the NoVa gang is having a fun-run tomorrow and I could *really* use the V1 for that. I'm so used to having it that I feel naked w/o it.) |

Well the socket obviously HAS a fuse....hooking the hardwire up should be to s fused circuit on the switched side of the ignition....so both DO have fuses...just not down stream.
"I" would not consider hooking it directly to the battery.

There may be a fuse on/in the V1. Fuses are like seatbelts; a nuisance until they are needed. But then it's too late to decide to utilize them. Jim

The cig. plug that V1 uses has a fuse inside, it checked out fine. Wonder if the unit itself has one too.
So which circuit "on the switched side of the ignition" would be best to wire the V1 into? Do you just splice into some wire? Which one? What is the most common wire used, and what does it power? Sorry about all the questions, just don't want to fry my "road angel" |

My hardwire kit has a fuse if I'm not mistaken. I did wire it to the output side of the fuse for the lighter. That way it operates with the key. If I need the Valentine while the key is off, we have troubles.

THanks guys, I'll get to digging around. Wiring into the cig socket makes sense to me.
