Kurt: Are you still happy with this resistor setup? I just got my motor back in last weekend with a lot of factory stuff gone! I installed Thom's fiberglass piece, and with my blower gone, the footwells don't work. I plugged the main blower in to verify, and they did work when it was in the circuit. So, your idea sounds great in order to keep the footwells going (which move more air to the cabin IMO).

I am going to backdate the heat on my 84. Just wondering if this set up with the ceramic ballast held up with the test of time?

Nope, turned out to be a failure. But with alot of insight from Mysterytrain the problem was solved! At no cost and completely reversible. Here is the thread. You need to read through the pages to see what was done. It is quite easy and there are plenty of pictures to show you what to do. Only takes about 15 minutes. Help! Does anyone understand the footwell blower circuit?

Here's another approach to getting the footwell blowers working.

Now that I deleted all the HVAC plumbing from my car (well almost all) I have the blowers wired to toggle switch. I use the factory resistor above the glove box to control speed. It is a 3 position toggle, so middle is off, up is low speed and down is full speed. Works great, but this solution is not for everyone.

Cheers

This setup you are showing is from a turbo car, part #4 is the left side (drivers) heat socket. Part #5 also requires Parts 6&7 to complete the right side socket.

An alternative setup is this type from pre 1975 cars:

Here is an SC car with pre-75 setup:

If you have a Carrera car you should use the Part #4 (in your original post) for the left side as this part will clear the Ignition Distributer. The pre-75 left side tin needs to be modified a bit to fit in the Carrrera.

If you have AC in the car it makes things harder for the backdate, the pre-75 right hand tin will NOT fit under the AC Compressor. Not sure if the Turbo tin fits? I'm working on modification to the stock Carrera right block-off tin so that it can have a duct attached to it and fit under the AC Compressor, I'll take some pics and post them soon. The modification costs about $5.00 for a simple 2" PVC elbow and some epoxy, does not look 100% great but who cares it's going to be covered by the AC bracket anyway.

scarceller,

Thanks for clarifying. I thought you could the Turbo version so you did not have to modify (bang with hammer) the pre-75 set up. I am lookimng to keep my stoick exchangers for now and remove the engine blower. For a $100 dollar part, a hose and a few clamps its a great mod.

It is my understanding that the turbo version LHS duct should clear the Distributor but I have never seen this part in person so be sure to ask.

Good luck
