Droping engine - first time woes
 

Dropping my 70T engine and transmission for the first time.
SOmeone told me to go to Harbor Fright and get an atv lift.
I did, paid $60 and assembled. Unbolted everything per 101 book.

Next I roll my atv lift under there. Then I said WHOA. This looks awful dangerous. Then I did a search and many here have built some kind of plywood rigging system. Others swear by the adapter plate from PP.

It looks like I have a useless $60 atv lift that would crush the exhaust. Is it safe to rest the whole engine and transmission on the heat exchangers? I didn't want to spend anothr $170, but anything else seems like a hack.

suggestions? or just break down and buy the adapter?

Just get a section of 3/4" plywood that is as wide as the HEs. There is no problem resting the engine on the exhaust.

Many people like the ATV jacks since they have wide stable platforms to support the engine.

Other option is to cut down a wodden pallet to the correct width and use that.

I did the same thing this summer but I built a "pile of firewood" as some of the guys here called it and it was really unnecessary. The ATV jack and a well-placed piece of wood are great and will make the job much easier. I also removed the rear bumper and jacked the car way up in the air and used 6 jack stands to keep the car up. Aoo of this was really unnecessary but it worked out great! Good luck!!

The heat exchangers are perfect for supporting your engine. Well, they worked for me, anyway.
