Shasta PCA tour of Wiedman's Wheels re-finishing...

Today the wife and I went on a tour of Weidman's wheels in Oriville, CA with the Shasta PCA.

Here are a few pics of the day:

Looking at Harvy's shop from the outside, you would never know that he has thousands of dollars of unobtanium Porsche wheels inside.

Hey, my wheels are done! Harvey did a set of 4 deep sixes and a pair of 911R wheels. I'll have to give him a hard time about spelling my name wrong though.

How the heck do I miss these things? Hardly anything Porsche related happens right in my own backyard, and I miss the chance to go tour Harvey's shop! I did meet him at Dunkel's (he was hanging out with the only other early Porsche guy in this town, Ed Barnett), and he seemed like a nice guy, and we talked P-cars for 20 minutes or so.

Next time

Jim

WTF! Is this another Cali secret you guys have been keeping from us? How come Harvey doesn't get much bandwidth when we talk about wheels?

The only reason I can think of is because he doesn't have the flashy adds in the magazines like some of the others. He does first rate work out of his little (by most standards) work shop. And does work for a lot of the big names like Emory, and many of the cars at Rennsport reunion. The best part is his prices seem very reasonable too.

Jim, sorry about not sending you an e-mail, I only knew about it the night before. Ed was there too, with his awesome RS replica track car.

Most likely because someone can't get a post out before someone pops in with Al Reeds name. Nice you guys have several sources out there.

Harvey is hands down the best in the field...

While taking to him in the Toad Hall pits at Rennsport I asked 'how many of the historic 911's were on his wheels?' ... He looked around and thought about it ... and modestly said, "Man I don't know, almost all of the ones in this area and I think a good percentage of rest of the 911's at the event..."

He's a real enthusiast... He really knows and loves these cars.
And has been in the game a long time.

Rumor has it...
Harvey was one of the mechanics that switched the 'duck tails' to 'whale tails' when the truck arrived in the U.S. with the original 15 IROC RSR's!!!

Cheers,

Chuck,

That is not a rumor, unless he is the one spreading it, because he told me that exact same thing too about switching the tails while we were talking at Rennsport.

I wouldn't have anyone else do my wheels and as a matter of fact he will be getting the wheels off the RS to refinish once the summer is over.

Actually they are just about done. Gary Emory is re-building the car, and the owner just wanted the wheels checked for trueness, and new paint. He wanted the pits and scratches left for carachter (sp) I guess.

And according to Harvey, a true set of 906 wheels will run you north of $10,000.

Does anyone have a different phone for Harvey's shop than 530/535-7903? I have been calling this # all week and get a fax screech in my ear each time I call. I tried sending a fax also, but it won't go through either. If that is his only # could someone stop by and tell them to turn the machine off. Thanks.

L.B.,

Thanks for the email contact, I didn't have that. I will give that a try and see if it goes through.
