'70-71 911 in Virginia?
I'm in central VA and I would like to look at somebody's car for reference on the 901 clutch/tranny setup. I am at wits end. Thanks to all on here who have tried to help and for the refernces to other threads. This just isn't making sense to me and I need to actually see it on a car. I am willing to drive to D.C. if I have to. Of course the closer you are to me the better. I am just north of Charlottesville.
Thanks, Allan |

FYI -- '70 and '71 cars used the 911 transmission. The '66 through '69 cars used the 901 transmissions. The primary difference (which is meaningful for you) is the clutch set-up.

Hey, a few pictures might do the trick. I would like a series of pictures that shows from the very end of the clutch cable up to where it goes into the bowden tube. Basically, the entire set up once it comes out of the transmission tunnel. I took my car apart almost 2 years ago and I don't have a shop manual. Anyway, it's the last piece of the puzzle and I'm ready to get it going again.
Thanks Allan |

Call Robert at Lufteknic. www.lufteknic.com He is in Richmond and might have one in the shop you could look at. If not, I am sure he can give you the info you need.

By the way, I would like to thank Fred for the offer. $ hours away might be pushing it. Lol
I'm hoping the forthcoming pictures will do the trick. sprbxr - I have just recently found that website. Looks like a pretty good shop from what I can tell. How long has it been in Richmond? I used top live there and it sure wasn't there then - god knows I looked high and low for somebody to work on my old 356 and could find only one guy. |

Pretty greasy but hope these will help. I only now realize how much more complex the system is than on the 65-69 car. There are 3.

A little knowledge is dangerous, but here's what I think I know.
Your frustration may be caused by the fact that you are dealing with a "push" clutch, unlike the "pull" system of the earlier cars. The lever in the picture is pushed toward the rear of the car when the pedal is depressed. It is anchored to the bracket at the far rear (pic 3). Adjustment is accomplished with the two large nuts which provide fore-aft adjustement relative to the "hole" (pic 2) which the housing passes through. Also, I believe it is important that the housing "floats" midway in the "J" bracket as shown in pic #1. It moves down when the pedal is depressed and, if it is restricted by the bracket, the clutch will not fully disengage. |

Thanks a lot. BIG HELP. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe I'll post some picks of the old girl since I haven't ever done that. It's nothing special as far as models go but t's special to me.

Now if you really want to improve your shifting, replace the 901 shifter with a 915 shifter + factory short-shift kit! You won't believe how good it will feel.
