'69-'73 gas tank in swb car ?

Will the gas tank from a '69-'73 911 fit straight into an earlier swb ('67) car ?

If so, what exactly are the differences (the lwb tank has an 'updated' part # as compared to the swb version) ?

Andy, they sure LOOK the same, and the ancillary parts (gas tank support, front pan, etc) are the same, so why not? I haven't tried it, though.

Now, the early tanks have more connections, and in different places-- there are banjo fittings for supply, return, and for the webasto heater, whereas the later CIS tanks probably have different baffles and only supply and return outlets.

Are you thinking of an 86 liter tank? I was thinking about that, or maybe ponying up for a 100 liter tank, but then I realized that I can't stay in the car long enough to burn that much fuel-- I drove for four hours and burned 3/4 of my '66's tank!

Come on, which one of you SWB guys has his tank out that can measure for our friend across the ocean?

I think the later tanks are bigger too, 21 vs. 16 gallon, and you need a spacesaver spare?

Oops, maybe that's the 74 and up tanks. Never mind.

I'm not talking about the later (larger capacity) tanks that utilise a spacesaver tyre/wheel - as originally stated I'm interested in whether a lwb ('69-'73) gas tank can be used as a direct replacement for the earlier swb tank.

Andrew 65-73 tanks should be interchangeable, after that 74-89 tanks are interchangeable. Fuel tank sending units should e the same 65-89 as well as the gas tank seal. Only exception is 73 911T's with CIS injection.
