Race prepped car part II
 

Well I got a chance today to look at the '87 911 ($25,000, 55k miles) with the track mods that I had asked about previously. I have to say that I was very impressed. Original paint was very good with just the usual stone chips on the hood. The flat black paint on the Fuchs could use repainting, but no road rash. Interior looks good; good dash good seats, good headliner good steering wheel. The only downside here is that I will need to remove the rear rollcage and it will leave two holes in the leather arm rests.

What impressed me the most was how it felt driving. It made every other Porsche I have driven feel tired (they all had over 100k). Despite the suspension upgrades the ride was very compliant and in no way harsh, and the car was absolutely tight and rattle free. I felt like this was a car I could live with for everyday use.

I still have a PPI to go, and I realize the price is top of the market, but this car has really stuck in my mind. I don't know how easy it is to find cars in this condition, particularly located a couple of miles from my house. What do you guys think?

The #1 question in my mind is how many of those miles are "race" miles ?? , the #2 question is how much original equipment is missing and what is the cost of replacing it ,do the performance mods outweigh that cost ? ,you can easily find a low(ish) mileage un-molested example for that money that is worth more in the long run..........either way it's a trade off

If the car drives so well and has a clean ppi go for it. Why does the rear rollcage ned to be removed?

Bill, the reason I need to remove the rollcage is so I can get my two sons back there until they are old enough to drive. I figure in about four years I should be able to put it in again. It is actually a prety nice rollcage with a fire extinguisher, and five point harness.

Brad (braddb_82SC) let me drive his car and I felt exactly the same way. I think he had upgraded torsion bars, bushings, turbo tie rods and Bilsteins. The handling on the car felt razor sharp. I'll be doing the same to my car shortly!

Mike, next time I see it at the PPI I will get some pics. It is black with a red interior, factory whale tail, and the 16" Fuchs with the black centers.
