Has anyone experience with trying different domes on JE pistons? I want to stay with 9.5 : 1 CR and bolt on the P/C to a stock 3.0 liter using the same crank/rods with a 964 cam, keeping CIS. Pelican offers:
JE Pistons, set of 6, oversize 3.2l, 98mm bore, 9.5:1 comp, 911 (1978-83) JE-212437 $908.20 Are these CIS- or HEMI dome? Thanks. ![]()

Gunter,
The JE pistons that work well with CIS are domed with large valve cutouts. The dome is also slightly cut at an angle to help 'swirl' the CIS mix. They'll work well with CIS and 964 cams. With the large valve cutouts, you can also run hotter cams down the road if you decide to ditch the CIS and go with carbs or EFI. Pictured below are CIS ~9.8:1 CR JE's ![]()

I had a reply from LN Engineering that there are two choices for JE piston-domes: One is CIS and the other is HEMI. Both can be had with either 10.5 : 1 or 9.5 : 1 and both will work with CIS. I would prefer 9.5 : 1. Just curious about the differences between the two domes.

Either of these pistons will work with CIS. Rather, CIS will react in the same manner to either of these pistons. The difference it the CIS camshafts. The domes of the CIS pistons will clear the CIS Camshafts. The domes of the Hemi pistons will probably not.
