Me Again - Cold Start Smoking
Again, this is on my 78 with a 74 2.7 repower. When I start my car, I get a large amount of gray smoke from the exhaust. It is almost definitely fuel overload based on the smell of the smoke. After the car has been run, it does not do it as bad, and it does not smoke when running.
As stated in earlier posts, I know I have some wiring issues. Could the smoke be due to the cold start system not working? How do I check? Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Is it time to *****can the CIS and go to carbs? Also, the lawn planter option is still looking like an option. Thanks in advance. ![]()

Im not an expert but do you have webers or fuel injection? Carbs do have a tendency to make an engine run a little rich during cold weather start up. Mine does the same thing but when the engine warms up after driving no more smoke on start up.

Andrew,
Sounds indeed like you are too rich @ startup. If you search cold start issues, and in particular a recent one by mysterytrain you will find lots of info on cold starting and warmup. Usual culprits include the AAR, the WUR and the mixture.
