76 targa turning into DE car

...have a 1973 RS w/an 88 3.2 pushing a 915 w/ 7:31....and was considering taking the 76 2.7 pushing a 915 w/ 8:31 and swapping trannies with the 3.2. Have heard that the 7:31 is at risk with the 3.2....and the 2.7 in the 76 targa could sure use the 7:31 for DE events as I hardly ever get out of 3rd gear. Any thoughts? I could obviously just rebuild the 76 targa's 915 to be a 7:31....but that seems to be the long way around.

...thought some racers or gear-heads...

...would have responded....no opinions eh? Think I'll go ahead and still stck the 7:31 with the 2.7 and match the 8:31 with the 3.2
