Early sunroof
On early sunroofs (1968 911) when the sunroof is closed, should the arms that lift the rear of the sunroof be straight up and down, lean forward (towards the front of the car) or should the sliders move past the pivot point and the arms lean backwards? I finally got the sunroof to work (motor was bad) but there's a small gap at the rear of the sunroof when it's closed. Right now, the arms lean forward and the sliders don't go all the way forward and touch the two bumps. The sunroof is level and fits, but I think I missed some type of adjusting that accounts for the slight gap at the rear. Seals are brand new and the front seal is on the front and the rear is on the rear. HELP ME PLEASE!! Yes I did a search but didn't find an answer. Thanks.

I got the same situaton with mine. I think(?) the solution is to lengthen the two `arms` and so the sunroof goes forward, pops up, and the back swings up/back to seal that side.

the arms are adjusted as high as they will go. Maybe they are too high? If the arms are too high, I think they would force the sunroof forward against the front edge, leaving the gap at the back? Today I'll try and lower them so the "foot" that the arms ride on actually moves past the attachment point and see if that moves the roof back a bit. The gap is very small and it looks like I could just use the extra front seal I have and put it on the back to make up the difference?

Well, what I've learned......the arms had to be adjusted all the way up and I put the extra front seal on the rear lip to make up for the gap. It's a snug fit but it works. Also at the recommendation of a local shop, I left off the rubber strip on the back lip. I put it on anyway because I had more problems with water coming inside the passenger compartment.
Anyway, the arms point somewhat forward and cable tension keeps the roof closed. My motor was bad but I was able to fix it. There were 2 small resistor coils and one of the connections was bad. A little soldering and a trip back to Jr High electronics and it worked fine. ![]() Now about that water inside the car. I thought it was because there were no sunroof seals. After I fixed everything, I still had water coming inside and dripping on the RR seat. I looked in the sunroof pocket and saw water puddled in that back corner where the cable channel ends. ![]() The bottom line is the drain hole was plugged. Soooo,,,I saw a post about maintenance and in my limited knowledge of Porsche's, I would add that you need to clean those things out every now and again. |
