Any problems with putting '72 parts into a '73 shell
 

Dear List,

For those of you that have undergone "heart transplant" surgery on your beloved P-Car, are there any fitment issues with transplanting ALL of my '72 parts onto/into a '73 shell ? ? ? ?

My understanding is that there are no differences between the '72 and the '73 ? ? Am I correct ? Still a long hood car...right? No issues with my motor/tranny ?

Any insight would be helpful. I am still trying to find a complete shell to transplant all of my '72's goodies, including motor/tranny/suspension etc. I have found several of varying years, and now it is time to decide on which one to go with....

The biggest problem that I foresee is the oiling system. You will need a 73 crossover line, oil tank and S hose and either the front cooler lines, or the line that runs from the crossover line back to the tank. Other than that everything should ,for the most part, swap over.

What if I wanted to adapted my 72 external oil tank, filler door, etc. to the 73? That would be pretty cool huh?

That would probably be fairly labor intensive. You would need to cut out and weld in the oil filler door and probably some tabs to hold it, then adapt the hole that was used for the 73 tank to accept the oil filter console. Not sure about anything more. I'm sure someone else has looked more closely at this.

As Tim noted, Everything will fit with the exception of the oil system. Easiest solution would be to use the 73 oil lines and tank. Sure, you can graft the 72 system into the 73 tub. How much work do you want to do? This would require moving all the mounting tabs, filler nect, filler cap, new latch panels etch for release, etc. Certainly not easy.

It's actually not that hard, when I put flared quarters on my '72 we just cut out the '72 stuff and welded it in to the later quarters, using the original door and hardware. Worked great.

Sounds like a little updating may be in order...... :)

I want to thank Aaron of http://www.flat6.com in Minneapolis for helping with my early shell search.....I acquired a stripped, dipped, and primered '73 today...now to get it from Minneapolis to Louisville, Ky.
