Ebay Advertisment.
He goes by the ebay name of donkey1304 and rainbow1304. This car was just sold from the Healey Factory in Melbourne last week for $68,500 AU, I contacted them and the car is definitely still in Melbourne Its now on sale in London for $9000 AU including shipping. Posing as a buyer heres the response I got! Hello, The car is still available for sale and ready to be shipped. I'm very glad that you like my car and I can only say that you have good taste about cars! This car was never crushed, droped or raced,no scathches,no dents and also it has a clear title. I took care of it like it was my own baby and now is in the same condition as it was when I bought it - even better! The price is $ 9500AU including shipping to your home address. Shipping will be done via Lufthansa Air Cargo from London,United Kingdom and it will take no more then 4 days for the car to arrive at the delivery location.I am in the Military and Lufthansa will manage me a low price for shipping and if you will pay the money transfer taxes,I will pay for the shipping fees.I will arrange for you not to pay any dutyes when the car will pass through customs. In this way the car can be delivered to your home address. Also, you have nothing to worry about this deal because will be done it in a secure way.The most important thing in all my activities, is that I am affiliated at eBay Square Trade and I have a Purchase Protection Account for USD $20,000 and I assume you know what this means. If you did not hear about Square Trade here are their terms: 1) If you will not receive the car not as advertised,Square Trade will refund you the whole amount which you paid me(100 %).In case that you will not receive the car, they will refund you the money back from my account. 2) You can send the money to my name and address but you will not provide me the details of the payment. You will provide the details to Square Trade. They will verify the payment and if is ok,and the money are availble under my name they will notify me to procede with the shipping. After you receive and see that the car is the one you want, you just notify Square Trade to forward me the payment details in order for me to pick up my money. Let me know if this is ok with you,so that we can go forward with this deal!About the payment Square Trade will manage in my place the financial details. Regards! p.s. If you have the money ready and you want to buy my baby I need your full name and shipping address in order to contact Square Trade to start the deal.

I saw that last night, Simon but I couldn't seem to find a link anywhere to report it to eBay.
Saw that car in the flesh a few weeks ago, too (@ the Healey Factory) and it's very clean.

Part of the scam is that this guy is not a Square Trade member.
The Square Trade seal he uses is a copied graphic placed in a scrolling java text. Not linkable to Square Trade. Square Trade members have their seal placed on their auctions automatically by eBay. These seals are linked, and can be clicked on to take you to their Square Trade summary. I also checked the Square Trade site, and this user is not a member. Keying in the UserID on their spoof tester gives this... Is your eBay seller SquareTrade Verified? SquareTrade shows NO record for this eBay ID. SquareTrade does NOT protect buyers from sellers who are not SquareTrade Verified. For further investigation, please forward your email to spoof@squaretrade.com. For immediate assistance, you may take eBay's online tutorial for how to spot a spoof (fake) email. Also, the user has only been around for about 4 months and has changed his user ID 4 times... Curious. I would report this to eBay/Square Trade as a possible fraud, or at the least a misrepresentation of the Square Trade program. Check with the guy and see if he will accept the use of an escrow service? These services act as intermediaries. They wait until they have the buyer's cheque, and the sellers goods, and then send them on their respective way. If one doesn't come through, the money, or product is sent back. If he won't use escrow, he's a fraud. I think I might play with him a bit... Jim

Started messing with his head.
Also notified Square Trade. We'll see what happens. Looks like the guy ended it early though. Hope he didn't find a sucker... Reading his response, and his poor grasp on the english language, it reminds me a lot of the "Help me get my millions out of Nigeria" scams. We'll see how this plays out. We don't need goofs like this around. Jim

There are dozens of these same scams on the Harley Davidson's for sale too. Infact at anytime the "new listed" front page of Harley Davidson's for sale you'll find that around 70 to 80% of the listings are the same scam. The silly low price, the 24 hours auction, the approved buyers only, etc etc. If you send email saying you want to buy the bike, you'll get the story about the seller being overseas and he'll either ship you the bike or its in an Ebay Warehouse. Ummm Ebay has no Warehouses. They all want you to use Western Union also which Ebay always says not to. You can send them email and play witht them but DONT fill out the buy it now because then they hijack your Ebay account and get into your paypal and cc info. I tell Ebay everyday about this and they dont really seem to care. Infact they've gotten to the point where they dont even bother totake the auctions down because there are so many of them. These people dont stop, they'll send emails for days and days all of which look legit from Ebay or Square-Trade telling you that you have to pay for the item you won.
I think its going to be the downfall of Ebaymotors. When you think about it, if you're thinking you're going to get a 15k bike for 6k then you're the sucker these people pray on.

In response to a Carrera sale ad that I placed at a site that is frequented by the UK Porschephiles, I sent the following reply to the inquiry via email:

Sent this guy some email. Got pretty much the same form letter as is outlined above, however, I asked specific questions and he added some info, saying his wife had a baby a week ago and he had to buy a station wagon and has no time to drive this car, plus he can't register it in the UK.
Same story. He wanted $9500 AU plus $400 for those money transfer taxes, whatever the hell those are, and he would ship it to me free. Said to send the money and to let square trade know. Asked him how do I send the money. He sent back to contact Square Trade. I replied that they had no record of him and asked why this was. No response yet. Now if this is a fraud, and he's trying to pretend to be a Square Trade member, why is he telling me to contact Square Trade to arrange payment? Not sure... Interesting. Car is still for sale. Anybody in the UK here? Might want to try to arrange a looksee. Jim

Most of us that use eBay regularly have received "spoof" emails asking us for our information because of one of several bogus reasons.... our account was violated, computer glitch at eBay that erased our info, or they just need ID confirmation, etc etc.. Maybe one in a thousand will fall for these gimmicks, but that gives them hundreds of hacked accounts in short order.
Simply never answer ANY unsolicited email that asks you for ANY personal information. Never go to a website directed by email and log on. The mirrored sites these hackers create are virtually identical to the real thing. You won't know you're duped until it's too late. The only purpose of these websites is to steal your personal ID, password and bank/credit card info. Citibank, eBay, Paypal accounts are stolen/hijacked by the thousands. Don't be naive and you likely won't be a victim. HERE IS ANOTHER... BOTH CAME TODAY
Congratulations to be pre-approved for eBay item 1991 Porsche 911 Turbo. Your seller, chicagolights200@aol.com, has informed eBay that your payment hasn't been received yet. We have insured this item and the seller is expecting the payment by Western Union wire transfer. If you have already sent payment or intend to pay soon, please contact the seller at chicagolights200@aol.com immediately. Simple misunderstandings are often resolved through direct communication. We advise you to send the wire transfer as soon as possible. ** Do not reply to this email. All you need to do is contact your seller.** You and your seller are encouraged to work things out in the next three days. If this situation is resolved during this time, the matter is dropped and you do not need to take any further action. If, however, your seller is still unsatisfied after this period, you may receive a Non Paying Bidder (NPB) warning from eBay. Once you obtain one warning on your record you will be suspended for 30 days. If you receive a second warning, suspension will last indefinitely. Please note that eBay does not take the side of the buyer or seller -- understand that we are only trying to help you and your seller trade successfully. Remember: Your seller is under no obligation to "hold" your item since much time has already passed. Regards, eBay Account Suspension Team (Trust and Safety Department) eBay Inc.
